Curriculum

We believe in every student's right to a broad and balanced curriculum which allows them to be culturally rich, curious and accomplished individuals, with the ambition and opportunities to shine in adult life.

Churchdown curriculum intent

Churchdown School's curriculum holds the acquisition of powerful knowledge at its heart as it aims to develop a deep, rich and thorough understanding of all subject areas. Intellectual architecture is important: knowledge is worthwhile in itself and we are unapologetic about our belief that all children can achieve, leading them to lives beyond the classroom that are full of choice and opportunity.

Our aim is to help children to build a deep body of knowledge that enables them to perform increasingly complex skills. This aspirational outlook opens doors for our pupils as it transcends and liberates children from their daily lived experience. We sequence our subject curricula with the assumption that all students could go on to study the individual subjects beyond Churchdown which allows for all subjects to build towards a clearly defined endpoint.

Our overarching purpose within our whole school curriculum is to allow students to enter into the academic conversation: in the diverse world in which we live we aim to provide a curriculum that is fair and just and provides equitable opportunities for all students in our care.

Hear from Mr Hastings, our curriculum lead, as he explains how we have built and sequenced our curriculum to best meet the needs and aspirations of every student here at Churchdown.
