Media Studies

Whoever controls the media, controls the mind”

Jim Morrison

Media studies is all around us and part of our everyday lives. As technology develops and the expectations of its audience changes, it is vital that we learn to not only engage with the media but know how to be critical of it, manipulate it and use it for progress. The media drives the world of business, consumerism, culture and ultimately communication. We should not be content with accepting the messages given to us, instead we should learn to question and analyse the purpose behind the media and the techniques it applies across a range of industries and platforms. We aim to challenge mind-sets and behaviours with an analytical look at social, cultural, economic, political and technological contexts that effect the media today and in the past. Developing these skills, we hope to create a cohort of independent, critical thinkers who can become confident in their own approach to the production, distribution and consequential discourse around the media thus preparing them for anything the future may throw their way.
