Special Education Needs and Disability

Churchdown is an inclusive school committed to providing an outstanding education for all students.  Our inspirational and challenging curriculum allows students of all abilities to flourish and achieve academic success.  We value all of our learners equally and strive to achieve high quality teaching for all students.  “All teachers are teachers of SEN”.

Every individual is valued, learning is enjoyed, success is celebrated and responsibility is shared, enabling our students to grow into responsible, questioning citizens who play a full and active role in society.  At Churchdown we believe in challenge for all students irrespective of their starting point, since we value the positive impact on self-esteem that meeting personal challenges affords.  Staff are continually involved in a rigorous programme of professional development to ensure they are constantly able to meet the needs of every student in mainstream classrooms to meet their full potential.  A range of additional provision and intervention strategies are available to students requiring a more individualised approach to support them in their development and learning.

The Learning Support Department at Churchdown School is a well-established and dynamic team committed to meeting the needs of the individual child.  It is comprised of teachers and Learning Support Assistants and managed by the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), whose role it is to ensure that children with SEND experience a smooth transition from primary school and to ensure that appropriate provision is in place once at Churchdown School.  Please do not hesitate to contact the SENCo if you have any enquires about SEND.
